Willow Dreamcatcher with Coyote Tail, Fox Jawbone

This colorful dreamcatcher is newly finished and measures an impressive 30 inches long from the top of the hoop to the tip of the coyote’s tail. The hoop itself measures 11 inches across.

I hand-shaped the hoop from tender willow branches which were allowed to dry hard over three months to hold their shape. The dreamcatcher web is handwoven in a classic style, and ‘caught’ in the web is a real American Lynx claw, half of a Red Fox lower jaw with all teeth present, a piece of a vertebrae bone from the same fox and a single black and orange golden pheasant feather.

The bones and claw were salvaged from naturally deceased specimens, and have been beetle-cleaned, degreased, whitened and sealed with a matte acrylic finish.

From each side of the dreamcatcher hangs two extra long Ringneck Pheasant tail feathers (tied together at the quill for durability) and double lengths of black deer leather. The leather laces are tipped with beads of real copper.

A handful of flame-red tipped golden pheasant feathers are tied to the top of the willow hoop with more black deer leather. All of the humanely-collected feathers are undyed - that beautiful bright red and orange is natural!

A big, bushy and full-furred coyote tail hangs from the center-bottom arch of the hoop, accented by another long length of copper-beaded deer leather. This tail is also salvaged from a naturally deceased animal, and has been tanned using chemical-free methods. The tail is de-boned and has been sewn onto the dreamcatcher hoop.
